Facebook Widget Installs Zango Spyware 137

BaCa writes "A malicious Facebook Widget actively spreading on the social networking site ultimately prompts users to install the infamous "Zango" adware/spyware. The tremendous success and lightning fast expansion of Facebook empowered the social networking giant with an impressive user base. Needless to say, in a digital world where web traffic equals money, such a user base attracts spammers, virus/spyware seeders, and other ethic-less online marketers like honey would attract flies."

Because the SETI institute isn't, contrarily to popular belief, just about finding aliens. I'll quote their mission statement for you:
"The mission of the SETI Institute is to explore, understand and explain the origin, nature and prevalence of life in the universe."

The alien part (SETI research) is just a subsection of broader research, just like astronomy (and that's what this is about) is.

Clinton Would Crack Down On Game Content 543

thefickler sends us word that Hilary Clinton has taken a public stand in favor of shielding children from game and other animation content that she deems inappropriate. Quote: "When I am president, I will work to protect children from inappropriate video game content." Politically, this puts her in company with Republican Mitt Romney on the subject of game censorship. Her fellow Democrats are content to let the industry self-regulate.

Explosives Camp 419

theodp writes "How about a summer camp where you get in trouble for not blowing things up? Students with a passion for all things explosive and proof of US citizenship pay a $450 fee to attend Summer Explosives Camp, 'We try to give them an absolute smorgasbord of explosives,' quipped a professor at the University of Missouri-Rolla, which offers a minor in explosives engineering. Here's the brochure (PDF), kids!"

4 Seconds Loading Time Is Maximum For Websurfers 219

nieske writes "Of course we all want webpages to load as fast as possible, but now research has finally shown it: four seconds loading time is the maximum threshold for websurfers. Akamai and JupiterResearch have conducted a study among 1,000 online shoppers and have found, among other results, that one third of respondents have, at one point, left a shopping website because of the overall 'poor experience.' 75% of them do not intend ever to come back to this website again. Online shopper loyalty also increases as loading time of webpages decreases. Will this study finally show developers of shopping websites the importance of the performance of their websites?"

Microsoft Buyout of Ailing Sony Possible 363

imashoe writes "BonaFideReviews has published an interesting article stating that a Microsoft buyout of Sony is quite possible sometime in the not-so-far future. From the article: 'All this added up, you have to ask yourself. Will the next Playstation you purchase post-PS3 run a Microsoft operating system and have backwards compatibility for PS1 PS2 PS3 Xbox and Xbox360? Putting your rabid love for Sony aside, this doesn't seem as far fetched as it once did, when the Sony name wasn't covered in enough red tape to fill the Grand Canyon.'"

Want to lay odds others at Sony are saying the exact same thing behind Heckler's back? Probably pretty good. If Square had a good console to offer, Sony would be SOL in the gaming dept...hell; Sony'll be SOL if Square and Nintendo get back together with NinCD. Either which way you go about it; most of Sony's products suck. (CD players that eat batteries like my nephews eat dessert, stereos that really never work, VCRS that won't quit flashing "12:00" even if you get a rocket scientist and a brain surgeon to work on it. And PlayStations are so damned fragile. If you BREATHE on it wrong...KAPUT!) Hell; add Sony to the list of companies I ain't investing in or buying from...You get enough people together and guys like Heckler get flushed. Plus; I really hate it when people ruin great quotes. Really pisses me off. Phoenix
