I don't think that JonKatz had intended that a Union in the traditional sense be created. What he implies is more akin to a special interest group. From what I understand of US politics, many special interest groups exist in the US and have significant power over government policies.
A special interest group representing the interests of Geeks wouldn't necessarily be bad thing. But Geeks in the work place do not need protecting or representing, we're doing fine. The people who really need the support of such a group are those stuck in High Schools. Those who are being tortured by the other kids and the establishment with no way to respond or to make it stop.
That's something that I could support.
