Comment Can't do concurrent code, code reviews & is ag (Score 1) 509

Firstly, I think all three of these issues are not linked in any way. If there is a way to get code working without concurrency, and your programmer is able to get that to work with all your use cases on your platform, you should just be fine. If not, you should give him ways by which he could learn concurrent programming and implement it for your given context/program.. Honestly, how much time will it take to convert his code to concurrent code - if there is no other way to run it. Secondly, for code reviews - if he's the only guy to resist it in your team/company, you have a big problem of teaming. This is a big "NO" in any group that does complex software development, you need really good team players to be in there. Your hiring process needs to be fixed or a reassignment is the only thing that could work. Insisting on a process that's uniform across the board - irrespective of age would make this work. Thirdly, for the age part - you ought to be sensitive enough and mature enough to know how to handle senior talent. It might be hard to remould them, since they are already molded in a particular way, but if you are able to gain their respect - then they could make magic..With age comes maturity - commitment and a lack of fear, but also stubbornness, lack of mold-ability, etc caused due to lack of of RESPECT. People are normally rational beings who upon respect would act in their own self-interests and perform...but you got to have them respect you. If the person you are talking about never respects, you then no matter what you try to do, he/she's going to duck it and continue down the same path, making it hard. The key - earn their respect through action ( and not talk,) and compassion and make them see the point. The ice has got to break, and the faster it is done, the better of a leader you are.
