Windows 7 added a lot more functionality to the Windows keys, especially for dual monitor setups. Win+P lets you toggle each monitor on and off, Win+Shift+Left/Right moves windows between screens, Win+Left/Right tiles windows to the left or right side of the current screen, Win+Up maximizes, Win+Down restores or minimizes, Win+E opens a new Explorer window.

There are a few more, but those are the ones I use frequently. Admittedly, I rarely use the Menu key, but that makes it quite handy to use as the Host Key in VirtualBox.

Registration for the Raspberry Pi has now closed. We are currently ensuring that the large number of customers who registered their interest over the final few days of registration have sufficient opportunity to order their Pi, and will be opening to general Raspberry Pi orders mid July.

If you signed up at the launch, you'd have one by now, and if not, you can get one quite soon.

One often overlooked factor is that Australia applies a 10% GST at the federal level, whereas the US sales taxes vary from state to state and aren't usually included in the price.

Which isn't to say that the entire markup is justified, only that some of it is beyond the retailer's control.

thsoundman sends in a blog post from Rahul Sood, CTO of HP's gaming business, who claims there was once a project in development at Microsoft to let Xbox users compete against PC users playing the same game. According to Sood, the project was killed because the console players kept getting destroyed by their PC counterparts. He wrote, "Those of us who have been in the gaming business for over a decade know the real deal. You simply don't get the same level of detail or control as you do with a PC over a console. It's a real shame that Microsoft killed this — because had they kept it alive it might have actually increased the desire of game developers and gamers alike to continue developing and playing rich experiences on the PC, which would trickle down to the console as it has in the past."

Free Clock Democratizes Atomic Accuracy 178

schliz writes "A new, trial network of software-based clocks could give data centers and networks the accuracy of an atomic clock for free. The so-called RADclock analyses information from multiple computers across the internet by collecting the time from each machine's internal quartz clock, the time it takes for this information to be transmitted across the network, and comparing all the information collected to determine a time that is most likely to be accurate, so machines are calibrated across the network with up to microsecond accuracy — as good as that provided by a $50,000 atomic clock, researchers say."

CRTC Approves Usage Based Billing In Canada 381

qvatch writes with this from CBC News: "The CRTC has approved Bell Canada's request to bill Internet customers, both retail and wholesale, based on how much they download each month. The plan, known as usage-based billing, will apply to people who buy their Internet connection from Bell, or from smaller service providers that rent lines from the company, such as Teksavvy or Acanac. ... Customers using the fastest connections of five megabits per second, for example, will have a monthly allotment of 60 gigabytes, beyond which Bell will charge $1.12 per GB to a maximum of $22.50. If a customer uses more than 300 GB a month, Bell will also be able to implement an additional charge of 75 cents per gigabyte."
