Hip? Get some discernment. Your're more hip if you haven't read Crptonomicon, a bloated vanity publication deliberately targetted at teh Slashdot crowd and other self-regarding geeks. The last decent book Stephenson wrote was The Diamond Age. The only other one was Snow Crash, and most of that was re-fried pulp cyberpunk.
