"Rabbit," aka Edward Manuel, pled guilty to attempted homicide and was given ten years' probation.
To date, no one knows whether his claim of having killed twelve women was true, but this much is known: he did intend to kill me. I have no doubt that he would've killed somebody eventually if it hadn't been for his amazingly bad choice in victim-selection.
And now I find myself wondering how many other killers are out there unsuspected, looking just like ordinary people, quietly pursuing their "hobby."

The nice thing about probation is the police can search the criminal's stuff at any time without having to apply for a warrant. So, if Rabbit gets careless at all--and from what I know, they all do eventually--he's toast.

Any chance you've logged your Yahoo IM conversations with this guy? I must say that you have a great narrative style that feels as if it comes through intutively, but it would be interesting to go through the actual logfiles to see exactly how you built the conversations with him.
Think it's rather interesting how someone cold could be made to open up on cyberspace; have a hunch it's a function of both the medium and the hunter (which, of course, is you). In a very academic sense, I'm curious as to how much
