Journal Journal: I want to use software anonymously

According to Australian Guidelines to The National Privacy Principles an organisations must give people the option to operate anonymously unless there is a good practical or legal reason. You can purchase a Microsoft application anonymously but to use it you are forced to submit personal information. Does anyone know of a 'good' practical or legal reason for this? As far as I am aware, you have the right to use the product on purchase.
