Journal Journal: Anything preventing Ubuntu from working on my laptop?

Well, I officially can't stand vista, so I was thinking of switching to Ubuntu. Before I do that, I want to make sure there's nothing preventing Ubuntu from working on my Laptop. I've got a HP Pavilion DV2000 (dv2416us to be more specific) with 2gb of RAM, Nvidia GeForce Go 6150, AMD Turion64 x2, some 100GB of hard drive space. I honestly know very little about Ubuntu, so any information would be appreciated. As for the reason, I'm pretty sure it uses less RAM than Vista, at any rate, so I'm pretty sure it would be better for gaming. Also, I don't particularly want to pirate a version of XP, so the free and legal thing is a big plus.

Journal Journal: what OS?

As of late, I've been despising Vista with every fiber of my being. I've only got it because it came with my laptop, which I got because it has 2gb of ram, 120gb hard drive, decent everything, and it was $600. best computer I've ever owned, in other words.
Well, that is to say, unless it had Vista.
I've even set it to the lowest grade possible, and I still can't push more than 10 FPS on WoW in Orgrimmar, or less than 5 in a battleground. I can push 30 FPS in an instance, but that's only--ONLY--because it's separated from the rest of the world. Granted, it's a laptop, but it's still really frustrating.

So, i'd like to ask all of you (and i wish i could make a poll of this, or if i can, i wish i knew how)

What OS should I replace Vista with? Is it even possible to do that without crashing my system due to soon-to-be-unforeseen-circumstances?

I'd prefer that i got over 20 FPS constantly in WoW.

here's my system:
manufactured by:HP
model: HP Pavilion dv2000
processor: AMD Turion 64 x2 1.80GHz
Memory(RAM) 1982 MB
System type: 32-bit Operating System
Display adapter:NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150

Thanks.
