Journal Tickenest's Journal: Shaq, Kobe, Iverson, please! 1
So USA Basketball finally lost in international competition when using NBA players. Argentina beat us 87-80. So what have we learned from this experience?
1) We played horribly for most of the game, and still barely lost. We're still way better than the rest of the world in the long run.
2) The rest of the world continues to catch up, although we already knew this.
3) The seats are empty at the games at the World Championships. They shouldn't be held in this country, because in this country we don't care about competing against the rest of the world, just each other.
Mad props to Argentina. They believed they could win and they did. Big thumbs up to Pepe Sanchez, the Argentina point guard. I'm in Philadelphia, and he was the point guard for Temple a couple of years ago, as well as the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year. He also had a brief stint with the 76ers. I hope this helps him get back into the NBA.
Maybe now a few of the first-rate stars in the NBA'll play in the World Championships now. They may have beaten us, but they still haven't beaten our first-teamers. Eh, this is asking an awful lot. We honestly just don't care about the World Championships, only the Olympics, and that's only because the original Dream Team crushed all comers in Barcelona in 1992.
I'd be very impressed if 1) we didn't go on to win the World Championships (we're by no means eliminated) or 2) we lose a single game at the next Olympics. Crazy stuff, this basketball, though.

2) Pepe Sanchez is now asking to be called Juan.
