I think we're narrowing in on the differences between online/digital information sources and works published on paper.

Information that changes quickly and needs to be indexed and searched is clearly best suited to the internet/digital media. Your example of a medical diagnosis system is a perfect example.

But I believe that information that does not change quickly and does not require queried searches is best suited to works published on paper. This kind of information tends to be refined and sharpened over a longer period of time. The points made are broader and more profound, and do not readily expose themselves in simple searches.

I love using the internet to research bits of information. But the motivation for this research is often fueled by something that I've read on paper.
