First, the disagreements:
1) The article was referring to senior citizen old, not parents old (at least that's what I gathered). Not to bash seniors, as many I've known have been extremely insightful, but I've known many more that simply sit and lament the changing of the world, and try to force it backward. Note: the latter I've encountered by far the most often in seniors. It's a natural defense mechanism, but counter-productive all the same.

2) Don't generalize teens please. ;) Not everyone has to wait until 20 to become knowledgable.

Agreement:
1) Your main point has a point. This analyzation is part of the thing that drives the elusive evil teen population do do what it is they do. I know because what's unpopular is often what I end up doing for that reason (The bigger the mob, the more stupid its actions, at least regarding culture, and often regarding serious issues). So yes, analyzation is worthless except for purposes of pure curiosity.
