Comment New Commercials? (Score -1, Troll) 484

So when can I expect to see a new Apple commercial, apologizing to the Vista guy for ripping about the lack of security of MS's operating system?

Maybe one where the Vista guy is dressed in his kingly garb, and the Mac guy bowing on one knee before him. I'd then expect the Vista guy to whack the Mac guy on the head with his scepter. Take that, Apple!

I don't think this idea has been thought out all the way.

I like the idea, but for neighborhoods with association members that are not technically adept, what will they do to maintain the network? Do it themselves?? I don't think so. If they attempt it, it will be a support nightmare. If they are unwilling/unable, they will have to hire an outside person/firm to help them support the network. We already have this with ISP companies with dedicated IT support staff.

This would work with people living in the neighborhood who know what they're doing, but I don't think this will work on a wholesale basis. And God forbid I move into a neighborhood that has adequate neighbors maintaining the network, just to have them move away later, and have the neighborhood drunk take over the network administration.

Yeah, I didn't realize before that the patent was on a device, would have been nice if the dunderhead who posted the article made that clear. Require me to read the article? The nerve of some people!! :)

Arbor Networks disputed Symantec's interpretation, saying, "we're not seeing this rise, not on TCP port 445 and not on TCP port 139. Looking over the last month we don't see this rise in MS08-067 attacks that would raise any alarms for us," in a Friday blog posting.

Both McAfee and Microsoft echoed those sentiments.

Seems like a shameless plug for Symantec to "look better" than their competitors. Crying wolf here won't get them the additional sales they think they will get.

From TFA:

The main goal of this plugin is to reliably find problems in the network and raise alerts about them. As a user, you want to be sure that you are getting the service that you're paying for and be notified quickly about network problems, especially those that can lead to compensation for service interruption.

As a user, so what if I know what the problem with my ISP's network is? I still have to call their crappy support lines, and wait the hours it takes their idiot technicians to fix the fucking problem.
