+1 Since the Sony/BMG scandal, I've made the same explicit decision. To me it was proof that Sony was and has never been interested in consumer rights, and so I choose not to have that relationship with Sony. I agree with @pr0t0, vote with your wallets if you don't believe a company is conducting itself ethically. I'll forgive Sony, when their business practices change.... it's going to be awhile.

Bottom line: Sony does not care about customers. Since the "Sony/BMG root-kit" fiasco, it was clear to me that the ethics and the consumer friendliness of Sony didn't deserve my business. I've boycotted Sony products since then. I even don't buy blu-ray discs because Sony benefits from the licensing. What else, oh yeah, the lack of security and failure to protect consumer personal information and your credit card data is more proof that they aren't doing the right thing for the customer. Now this. Sony doesn't want to respect your rights, too. Seriously Sony, WTF. In my opinion, I was right to boycott Sony before, and this doesn't change anything.

Oregon To Let Students Use Spell Check on State Exams 235

Starting in 2011, the Oregon Department of Education will let students spell check their work before submitting state exams. From the article: "The move is supposed to help the assessments focus less on typos and more on their writing skills. 'We are not letting a student's keyboarding skills get in the way of being able to judge their writing ability,' said state Superintendent Susan Castillo. 'As we're using technology to improve what we're doing with assessments as a nation, we believe that spell check will be one of those tools.'"
