I was under no illusion as to what result I could expect in court if, as a homeowner, I used deadly force against an unarmed, naked intruder in my home. I would be laughed all the way to jail if I claimed I had reasonable (not bare) fear of death or grievous bodily harm from the unarmed, naked guy.

So you don't think an 'unarmed' naked guy can do you serious bodily injury? I don't know about your state, but where I am I don't need to fear death to use deadly force, only serious bodily injury. If a guy is in my house and coming at me I don't give a shit what he's wearing. I will stop the threat.

There was no check "every other service uses". Current taxi drivers did not have to submit to fingerprints either. They will by next year but that rule is very new. Like only added since Uber/Lyft showed up. This was never about safety and more about keeping the status-quo and medallion holders in power.

How Hair Can be Used To Track Where You've Been 133

First time accepted submitter kandelar writes "PBS recently ran a story about how some scientists are using human hair to trace where a person has been. The combinations of different isotopes in water make for somewhat unique signatures from place to place. These isotopes get placed in growing hair strands which can then be traced back to identify where a person has been."

TSA Pats Down 3-Year-Old 1135

3-year-old Mandy Simon started crying when her teddy bear had to go through the X-ray machine at airport security in Chattanooga, Tenn. She was so upset that she refused to go calmly through the metal detector, setting it off twice. Agents then informed her parents that she "must be hand-searched." The subsequent TSA employee pat down of the screaming child was captured by her father, who happens to be a reporter, on his cell phone. The video have left some questioning why better procedures for children aren't in place. I, for one, feel much safer knowing the TSA is protecting us from impressionable minds warped by too much Dora the Explorer.

I'm no tax expert either, but the one I hired when I worked in NY but lived in NJ said that I had to file for taxes in both. Now, all of the taxes from NY were deductible from my NJ taxes so it wasn't like I was paying double taxes, but I did have to file the income for both states. I have no idea how or if things are different for contractors, but all the W2 employees in my office that lived out of state (mostly in NJ and CT) had the same issue.

When I moved to TX, I still had to pay NY taxes even though I was only in the NY office 4 weeks out of the year. Kind of a bummer, but them's the breaks.
