The US gets a lot of flack for dropping nukes. That is a debate I'm unwilling to spend time on. However no one seems to mention the firebombing of Tokyo. Much worse. This pager attack was the most targeted attack I've ever seen and shows me that they are fighting smarter instead of harder. Their enemies only seem to know how to fire more rockets and they don't seem to care who they hit.

I see your point however how would anyone ever conduct a more targeted attack? These people were targeted. Not their house or neighborhood. It is an escalation and scared the shit out of everyone when we thought it might be code sent to overload the battery in some way. But as an attack I give it high marks for targeting just the individuals themselves. However this is an escalation across another country's border targeting it's citizens, not military. Over all, I give it a D for this reason.

What are the costs? Transmission is relatively simple as these lines run from generation to substations. Its when this power is then distributed out to the individual is where it gets dicey. Claiming the evil power companies don't want this because of money is a bullcrap statement. If replacing the lines along with the labor needed costs too much it won't be done because power prices for consumers is like gas prices. If they go up people freak out no matter the reason. Efficiencies also has a part to play as you mentioned the differing sources of generation.

The size of the US precludes a direct comparison to the other G7 unless you account for population disparity at the very least.

Perhaps we all just need to be adults and realize using a nuclear weapon will harm all.
