Alas, it's been a few days since this was posted so the person I am replying to will never see this, oh well.
Your rant about cell phones is tripe. When you buy a cell phone and sign a contract for service, it was customary to get X number of dollars off the price.
In Canada, the average was $200. Though I have no idea what it is these days. So often cell phones were sold at "Free!" ($200 or less before the rebate from the cell phone company) or they just knocked $200 off the price to seem cheaper.
What this has to do with your pet theory that the PS2 and PS1 were originally sold at a loss despite Sony claiming in their stock filings that they were in fact profitable, I have no clue. But somehow you made this jump.
