  • why don't you tape it, convert it to digital, setup a file server in the u.s., put the program on there and give me an account to download the shows. ;)

i read a very cool essay [belfasttelegraph.co.uk] today.
    • No see that's just silly reasoning.

Looking at the bad only doesn't give a good enough picture.

Sans Religion, thus guilt, what is the human reason NOT to kill, NOT to steal, NOT to forincate and get diseased, NOT to covet thy neighbor's comely wife and tie her to a drain pipe in your basement and drug and rape her until she loves you? Nothing. Because there is no reason NOT to do all of those things.

God, and his wrath are powerful reasons NOT to be a total scumbag. On the off chance that there is a God an

Religion doesn't have a monopoly on guilt. Or indeed morals in general. As the trailer for the programme said, "Without religion, evil[1] people would still be evil, good people would still be good, but there would be no reason for good people to do evil".

[1] Poor wording, because "evil" itself is a religious concept. It's like sin. Sure, I'm a sinner, because the very definition of sin comes from the church. But I get the point he's trying to make.

          • Morals are not intertwined with religion, morals have been hijacked and twisted by some religions. My favorite counter example to someone saying religion is required for morality is the Tao--a secular philosophical document which contained guidelines for living morally and happily without any promise of punishment or a "god". I was stunned when I read the Tao to find that it contained the "Golden Rule" and that it was written 600 years before jesus was born.

That was a huge blow to my belief that religion
    • Actually, a lot of BBC shows make it on to the p2p networks. I heard about Space Cadets back here in the states and thought, there is no way they can find people dumb enough to believe they are in space on a reality TV show without actually sending them to space. I downloaded the show, I was wrong. Also, BBC America or BBC World might air it here in the states.

I have to agree with the other posters; religion perverts morality more than it defines it. You have an ingrained morality that keeps you from being
