Submission + - Collaborative LaTeX editor with Preview in your web browser (writelatex.com) 1

Celarent Darii writes: Slashdot readers have undoubtably heard of Google Docs and the many other online word processing solutions that run in the browser. However, as a long-time user of TeX and LaTeX, these solutions are not my favorite way of doing things. Wouldn't it be nice to TeX something in your browser? Well, look no further, there is now a Online collaborative LaTeX editor with integrated rapid preview. Some fantastic features: quasi-instant preview, automatic versioning of source, easy collaboration and you can even upload files and pictures. Download your project later when you get home. Are you a TeX guru with some masterpieces? Might I suggest uploading them? For the beginner: you can start here.

Full disclosure: I am not affiliated with the site in anyway, just a fan. Hope exposure on Slashdot gets the word out on this great resource, which is very useful while travelling!

Comment Apple = current fad (Score 1) 1

Well once people realize they are buying almost the same phone each year it will start to decline. You can get a phone for comparable price (Galaxy s3, or the Note 2 in Nov, or Motorola's new line) for the same price or less and hardware/performance/functionality is superior. It's like Starbucks/McDonalds/Krispy Kreme, Apple's product is currently the 'fad' but will die out and make way for a new fad.

Well, this 2 part question deserves a two part answer
If you had a $14.99 plan for 1 out at a time and unlimited internet videos You can on average turn around 1-2 dvds a week for 4-8dvd’s mailed a month And unlimited instant watch to an eh connection of movies/tv shows.
Total: 4-8 + unlimited = $14.99 While redbox which has been Netflix’s number 1 competition for the last 6years. It’s 1 dvd for $1 with a $1 a day late fee, which means you could rent 30 dvd’s for $30 at 1 a day
To beat Netflix you would need to rent less than 14 dvd’s a month, and with the selection of Redbox locations only being updated 4 times a month (at best) you would also need to expand your searching locations, which would bring in paying gas prices. So..
Netflix 4 to 8 + unlimited IW = $14.99 Vs. RedBox 15dvds + (gas for driving @ least avg2-4miles both ways [4-8total, avg. gas price $4 a gallon, 30mpg car]) $.75 = $11.25 + $15 = $26.25 Which means you would actually only get roughly 7dvd’s from Redbox for the same price.

Submission + - Average gamer is 37 years old (cnet.com)

kolbe writes: "A new study from the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) suggests that a majority of gamers today range between the ages of 37 and 41 years old. If true, does this mean that game studio's should be adjusting their demographics accordingly, is Generation X the next "baby boomer" market for the gaming industry?"

Uhhh, as far as I'm concerned if you still use AIM you deserve what you get, the only reason AOL itself is still around is because of our poor grandparents who don't know any better. I say "Boo on you" aol for taking advantage of our elderly community that doesn't know any better by forcing them to install additional programs such as "ViewPoint Media Player" if they want AIM. Its crap that you make Customers of your's download additional adware to help support your continued existence, just roll over and call it quits. Time Warner is the only way you have left. Period.
