Journal TechWolfy's Journal: What do users want?

As my first entry, I guess I should introduce myself as someone familiar with computers, but in no way an expert to the inner workings of code and hardware. I play a lot of strategy games, although not as much as I have done previously. I have some experience with coding in VS2005Pro, but nothing more than being able to create math function sets. My interests in computing are mainly in Operating Systems and computer hardware, both performance and design. Operating systems of today(April 15, 2007) are sophisticated and leaning towards a more user friendly environment. One of the selling points behind OS', besides security and flexibility, is the GUI. There's a lot of controversy over Microsoft's new OS "Vista" and it's many similarities with OSX. Users like both systems for their features and many stick to certain systems out of nostalgia. What is it that users really want? What is it that they really want to see in an OS?
