Comment More economic suicide. (Score 1) 132

This is a political $cience disaster. Power prices will go up significantly while the economy is being trashed. Rolling power outages will occur putting people at risk. As more people get EVâ(TM)s it will cause more problems. I hope there are a few sane people that keep the oil and gas power plants functional as they will need them.

I completely agree about wanting the quality. I have a good quality big screen and can notice the difference between DVD and Blu Ray easily, I watch TV shows that are compressed, but I want to see quality from a full feature movie. The only problem I have is all the stupid ads and crap I have to wade through to get to the movie, just let me watch the movie I paid for!!!!!

My metal key can get wet, get dropped and still work. My electronic remote can't get wet, the battery could die, it could stop working from being dropped. Electronics are more convenient but not more reliable in my opinion. However as long as we don't use Retina Scans, I definitely don't want Snake Plissken's friends scooping out my eye to steal my vehicle :-$

If it needs to be in proximity to a watch, there must be some kind of signal reception going on. So.... depending on the method, there is a reasonable chance of a signal jammer being developed (by the police or the bad guys.) It would really suck to go for your gun to find a jamming field was present and you were screwed. Not very cool.

After using the Logitech M570, I find I get better control and speed with my Trackball. http://www.logitech.com/en-ca/... When sitting on the couch, I can easily position the M570 trackball to allow for comfortable gaming without a movement surface. The ability to spin 180 deg with a trackball is instant, for FPS it is awesome. However it does take a bit of getting used to, but it is better in my opinion than a mouse. I also have no pain when gaming for much longer than I should admit at times, lol.

The laws were meant to be tools to go after the bad guys, not to be used like a legalistic moron/hall monitor. Just saying he is following the law is a cop out (pardon the pun) there are many laws that the police use their discretion on, and for good reason. Texting at a stop light may be a so-so call (maybe the light turns green and you hold people up), but using a GPS on a phone as long as it is mounted where a normal GPS would be, is just Nazi crap.

Submission + - Biologists Program E. Coli To Patrol For Pathogens (acs.org)

MTorrice writes: When hospital patients develop nasty, antibiotic-resistant infections, the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa is often the culprit. In a new approach to killing the pathogen, researchers genetically modified harmless Escherichia coli bacteria to detect and destroy P. aeruginosa. The E. coli spot a specific chemical released by the pathogen and then secrete a toxin to kill it (abstract).

One of the problems I see, is that the management types hiring the H1B people assume they are getting people at the same skill level, but statistically, the skill level is much worse, particularly from India. There were some studies on the quality of education awhile back, so I won't go into too much detail. But many of the H1B people lie or greatly exaggerate their eduction which in many cases is not provable. The management types are just happy their payouts are less, in reality they are getting garbage products and robbing jobs from truly qualified workers that could produce a quality product. (statistically, not always). The other problem besides ignorance from the accountant types hiring the H1B's thinking they are getting a deal, is that people seem to be more and more ok with putting out crap products. The days of true quality seem to be going away. Now it is just, get it out quick and fast and cheap. Innovation is just a buzz word no one wants to pay for any longer (for many companies, there are a couple still trying to compete doing it right)
