Comment This is where culture wars SHOULD be fought (Score 1) 30

The culture of "put your kids in front of SOMETHING to keep them entertained" is the problem, because just watching things does not make a child or even someone older actually think. Pushing the idea of using technology to teach and in the case of phones/tablets/computers, to engage and encourage THOUGHT is something you don't see often enough. Games have also shifted from there being puzzles as a part of the game experience(even finding those secret locations in the original Tomb Raider isn't seen as a popular thing these days).

Parents need to get off their asses and actually encourage their children to use the technology for learning and to develop useful skills. Aiming to be an "influencer" is the sign that parents of these children haven't done a good job, because being an unskilled but charismatic person just to gain followers to make money isn't necessarily going to work for the vast majority of people. It's like the kids who focus on sports in the hope of one day going pro and getting paid to play, it's a dream, but one that most can't count on, so a good "fallback" career should be seen as essential.

If a manager needs to tell those under him/her/it/he/she/they/them what to do, are those employees intelligent? Your argument is flawed here. But, automated attacks have been around for a long time, but these "AI" agents are getting more flexible when it comes to HOW to attack other systems. A firewall will be your best friend, and shutting down all of those remote services that keep a connection to the outside alive.

The big difference is in the mindset of people, but also, understanding at least a bit about how things work. Android and iOS(Apple phones/tablets) will get the primary attention of the companies that make apps, while a proprietary OS built into only a single brand of car getting the minimum level of attention. New features, and even full functionality will be a LOT better for what we get on phones/tablets, and that translates into those new features showing up in cars via Android Auto/Apple Car Play.

The same goes for navigation, you have the "fun" of paying for map updates if you get navigation from the car manufacturer as another issue, so "built into the car" really gives you limitations and delayed updates/improvements.

A disclaimer that says, "If I am stupid enough to be tinkering with the infotainment system while driving, then it's MY fault if I get into an accident" makes some sense. You can easily just accept it, it's NOT abusive in how it is implemented. If the idea of turning the infotainment system on/off, or picking what you want to listen to isn't bad, hitting a "I understand that I shouldn't do stupid crap while driving" button when you first get in shouldn't bother you.

It's not the same as an ADVERTISEMENT, which makes the manufacturer money. If they want to sell me the car for $10,000 less if I am willing to deal with the advertisements, that COULD be an option, $10,000 isn't a small amount of money in exchange for being subjected to advertisements.

This goes to how the worst drivers will become easily distracted, so the car manufacturer NEEDS to put in disclaimers like this to avoid lawsuits. Playing with the radio and trying to manually change the radio station while driving may get you into an accident, we know this, but lawsuits and the potential for lawsuits make it a requirement for disclaimers.

Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis are under the same umbrella, so there will be similarities in many of the systems within the vehicles, but a disclaimer/warning that goes away on its own isn't THAT bad.

When companies first started outsourcing their support in the mid 1990s(because the ability to re-route calls via voice over IP), the quality of support dropped. As this went international, most people found the quality dropped even more as you now had the issue of "agents" having an accent that many could not understand.

When the quality of customer service was already very low for many companies, AI doesn't change the quality very much. The era of representatives who actually know and understand the products is long gone now, so AI again, isn't that terrible in comparison, just different. The problem is really for those in places like India and Indonesia where people with little skill have been working call center jobs, and now, they will be forced to work for scam companies that focus on trying to steal money from old people.
