Journal Tankdagger's Journal: Children are Great 9

Today was my daughter's six-month Doctor's appointment and shots. It is so mind-blowing to see how much she has grown in six months. My wife and I have taken pictures EVERY day since our daughter was born and it is cool to see the gradual change in her. I cannot say enough times how wonderful parenthood is and how much I love my little girl. Every time you think she can't amaze you more, she does something else that just gives me a grin from ear to ear. Before my daughter came along, I believed I couldn't love anyone as much as I love my wife. That all changed when my daughter came along. I don't mean to say that I love my daughter more than my wife... I just cannot put into words the difference. There is just something a little different and a little more special about the love you have for your children. I guess it has something to do with the way she smiles when she sees me get home from work of when I get her out of her crib in the morning. It just makes me want to do everything I can to help her grow up the best way possible, but at the same time there is a part of me that never wants her to grow up because I love and enjoy the stage she is at so much right now.

  • They grow up before you know it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my 10 year old tons too (It is now more likely that we can actually enjoy the same movies for example :-) And not having to get a drink of water for her or whatever is nice.) But there is something to be said for little ol' munchkins; at no time in their life will they be easier to please. Heck give her a bright shiny spoon and she is happy.
    • As the father of a 4 year old and 14 month old, I agree. The transformation of my youngest from 'innocent little girl that can't do wrong' to the 'demon spawn that is my toddler son' is already starting, and I miss some of that innocence already....
      • My latest favorites are the pre-bedtime tantrums of our 2.5 year old. It is bad enough with daylight savings and the sun staying up longer, but now with potty training she has the added bonus "I have to go potty!!!" excuse to drag out getting ready for bed. I can only imagine how fun it will be when the SO takes the munchkin to visit her parents next month two timezones eastwards.
  • Are you trying to muscle in on my bid for Dad Of The Century?

    Back-off! ;)
  • My younger daughter turns 20 today, and my older turns 24 tomorrow. Young and innocent is nice, but when they get to the point of building their own lives, it is a beautiful thing to see. Not that there isn't heartbreak, but the joy is greater.
    • I cannot wait. Although, I am trying to strike a deal with my wife that will never allow her to marry or date for that matter.... :>
      • When mine were teenagers, they used to ask how old they had to be before they could date. The standard answer was "35". :-)

We always told them that they should not date anyone that they were not friends with. It didn't always work, but they have been pretty stable in terms of guys.

How many hardware guys does it take to change a light bulb? "Well the diagnostics say it's fine buddy, so it's a software problem."

Working...
