I always thought that The Browser Company was bad at delivering on a product that I would actually use, but not that Atlassian owns it, RIP for sure. Their software has always shocked me at the pure insane complexity and frustration for years.

I don't know the details, but there has to be overhead associated with these coins that has to be paid by someone. Maybe its less than the 1-3% you mentioned, but I'd be interested to see.

Everyone added that crap to their apps all at the same time and made it so it was in your face with no way to disable it. I uninstalled Twitter and LinkedIn and used the web sites because of this garbage. Looks like its safe to go back, at least until the next stupid ass idea comes along.

I HATED that damn Fleets bar, and they wouldn't let you disable it. I ended up uninstalled that damn app and just using the web where Fleets wasn't a thing. Linked In has the same damn thing.

Just because they're not doing ad tracking doesn't mean they won't show you any ads. They'll probably just show less "relevant" ads.

When I first got my OLED LG TV, I was astonished with the amount of user agreements they want me to opt into or they would hold function ransom. I eventually became to uncomfortable with the whole process and opted out of everything and air gapped the TV. Seeing this makes my feel like it was the right move, but I'm still really angry given that I paid a premium price for a high end TV just to have LG provide this awful customer experience.

Tempted to switch to this guy instead of my XS MAX just to get Touch ID back... FaceID sucks, especially when lots of time is being spent with face masks on.

This is the exact type of crap that makes me HATE Slack. Just allow people to turn it off. I don't even care if you turn on new features by default. Just let me turn it off. Slack does so many things this way, that I just want to abandon it completely.

Studies like this are so important in modern tech. At the beginning of my tech career I had my own office and I was super productive. I moved companies and it was a open office environment. I nearly lost my shit. My productivity died. It took me a long time to adjust, and while I still feel that I function better in my own office, I've developed coping mechanisms to help me function at work. I know not all people experience this the same way, but accommodating people can sometimes be easy, and who doesn't love happy productive workers right?

Wow man... Many application are written in Electron and work well. This is a very narrow view and doesn't even take into account that just because an application is built with HTML and JS components doesn't make it a "web app". And what's so stupid about not wanting to do the same work to replicate the same experience on multiple platforms? What is the down side?

So what Google is saying is that this is self driving hype?

Most Chrome Apps contain html/css/js so when you visit a page you don't have to download these. It's a pre-packaged website. You'll only need to download dynamic content.

Man I'm super happy with my decision to start backing away from Google services after that whole G+ integration and real name crap went down. I feel like Google is just going to keep going down hill from here...

Google+ is still requiring me to use a first last name so I don't know if this is something coming down the pipeline or what.
