Porting Lemmings In 36 Hours 154

An anonymous reader writes "Aaron Ardiri challenged himself to port his classic PalmOS version of Lemmings to the iPhone, Palm Pre, Mac, and Windows. The porting was done using his own dev environment, which creates native C versions of the game. He liveblogged the whole thing, and finished after only 36 hours with an iPhone version and a Palm Pre version awaiting submission, and free versions for Windows and Mac available on his site."

Simple CMS For Mixed Mac/Windows Team? 119

Quasar Sera writes "I am looking for a content and/or project management solution for a marketing research team using both Macs and PCs. Ideally it would support document sharing, metadata/tags, search capabilities, revision control, and the ability to share documents easily with people from outside the team without any software installation or login required. It may be tricky to configure (since I will be doing that) but must be dead simple to use for the rest of the team. We rely mostly on Word, Powerpoint, and Excel (all in their native file formats) for our work, so it would be a large number of fairly small files. Any and all advice would be appreciated."

Ubuntu Will Switch To Base-10 File Size Units In Future Release 984

CyberDragon777 writes "Ubuntu's future 10.10 operating system is going to make a small, but contentious change to how file sizes are represented. Like most other operating systems using binary prefixes, Ubuntu currently represents 1 kB (kilobyte) as 1024 bytes (base-2). But starting with 10.10, a switch to SI prefixes (base-10) will denote 1 kB as 1000 bytes, 1 MB as 1000 kB, 1 GB as 1000 MB, and so on."

Comment Some helpful ebike info (Score 1) 520

I built an ebike about three years ago. These links were very helpful to me to get ideas:

http://www.austinev.org/evalbum/ - photo album of electric car, bike, etc. designs.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/power-assi st/ - yahoo group for motor assisted bicycles.

I used a mountain bike, EV warrior motors (dual dc motors with friction drive with the back wheel), a pulse modulated speed control, and deep cycle AGM batteries. The original design is on this page.

http://webpages.charter.net/schiavoneaj/ebike/

I have made a few modifications to the design: 1) I moved the motors further back because they got too hot being so close to my legs, 2) I moved the batteries to each side of the back tire because it was too top heavy, and I made a better speed controller housing.

I can get around 16 mph and a range of 8 - 10 miles with two 12V 17 amp hour batteries (total of 24 V driving the motors).

And contrary to all the fat ass comments, it was fun to build, is fun to ride, and I do get exercise because I pedal in addition to using the motor.
