By combining mobility data from Chinese-brand cars with other info on US persons, they can easily profile people and enhance their targeted efforts at social media and funding of organizers in the US to achieve objectives that benefit China. For example, fanning the flames of public opinion against data centers while China builds there out in an AI arms race. Knowing the commuting, shopping, dining, and social patterns of US drivers would provide useful new correlates for other traits.

Iâ(TM)m in what is probably my last decade or so of a highly technical career in industry since getting a PhD. Would be tempted to forgo the remaining income and teach high school, college, or grad levels, if I could figure out how to do it while avoiding the incredible amount of overhead bullshit that comes with public schools and university administrations. Iâ(TM)d teach for free, but you couldnâ(TM)t pay me enough to deal with that stuff. My opinion is informed by observing family members teach over the years at secondary, collegiate, and grad levels.

...SpaceX is about to beat them back to the moon or even Mars a few years from now? If they haven't contracted with him for the ride, they won't want him to launch a private mission. Too much national pride at stake. At first they will try to compete by announcing reusable rocket programs and the like. After those programs don't pan out to be remotely close in cost or timing or capability, they will panic as Elon's launch date approaches. Then what... deny him launch permission? Sabotage the mission? A little bit tinfoil hat, but I can't imagine those countries allowing a private company to put the first boots onto Mars.
