That's not realistic at all. 3 years of actual work is closer to a Bachelors. 5 years is basically a Master's level of Competency of software development. It's the exact opposite, your IRL experience is worth more than learning a new Humanities or Liberal Arts word for BS filler classes that are requirements to get through a 4 year degree.

Comment Meh, does it change anything? (Score 0) 214

Most of the time the level of knowledge is lower with degree'd individuals. Mainly because they LOL'd degree'd their way into the sector and the field. People without degrees and certificates, but a vast pool of knowledge are in the field because actual interest. Whatever, hire whomever you want, I don't expect your software to not be trash. I definately don't expect devs to stop building traps and back doors into their bullshit software either, because how else would they get new ideas if they didn't steal them?

From what I saw in demonstration, as a older C developer, I like what they have to offer. I was in a tussle whether to move over into Zig, or stay with C. I stuck with C because of the ANSI requirements, and ZIG isn't a fully standardized syntax yet. I get the impression that Zig is going to be competing more directly with Rust in the future, as that was the intention. I liked what I saw though. Even if I couldn't get it work on my Fedora box. I think that was a Fedora issue.

I clearly am supporting right-to-repair, in demanding that I can require a password to change my firewall settings. If I could SE my Mac box, I would, but nope. I have to accept the fact that Apple is a bunch of whiney babies that has to feel special and gain access remotely to hardware they don't own. Let's not even get into the other issues with their software. Mr. Cook apparently isn't a computer guy.
