Think about it:
AOL has a ton of cash. They are maybe one of the only companies that could really stand up to M$.
Yes, they do everything half-assedly, but still.
In any case, a divided "MS Market" (basically, every PC except for Linux/Unix/Mac) will crumble more easily.
As always, more choice is beter.
