Honestly, I have seen scant few "ads" on Windows, save for the initial tiles on the Start menu when just out-of-the-box. Once in a very blue moon, Microsoft will say there's a new version of the browser that comes with Windows, or that there's a new Windows version. Both things many people would like to be informed of anyway.
And I don't see that many ads while on the Internet either, as I have a hosts file in place, use a DNS service that blocks third-parties (1.1.1.3), and have a decent ad-blocker in my browser.
If you travel to Times Square, you will see ads. You expect them even and all the neon as part of enjoying the over-top experience. At home though, if you place a few drapes up on your place, as anyone would, you won't unless you choose to.
