Well, haven't you heard of the Turing test? If it can exhibit all the qualities of a real dog and fool you into believing it was real, who is to say it's not?
Not to get into a philosophical discussion, but aren't all of our behaviors just responces to stimuli and in that case aren't we just going through certain algorithms?
If they can do just a part of what they claim it'll be huge. Come on, look at Furby's those infernal little toys can say like 40 different things and everybody went nuts over them....
