I've actually had Opera crash on me very, very rarely on Linux and used flash just as much as on Windows. Not a Gmail user though so I don't know how it reacts with it. Also very few problems with it and Slashdot, or, well, "few". Only as many as other browsers.

Right, closed source and still more secure and less vulnerable then Firefox and dedicated to privacy and quality. Open Source is good as a concept and should obviously be furthered, and maybe Opera will eventually go Open source, but to want a company to burn and their quality product to die off simply because they want to remain closed source is probably the most childish thing I can think of.

If you're considered about space... put it on the wall. You'll save desk space and I'm sure there is nothing really important you wanna look at behind your CTR.

Very shortly you're going to be disallowed to post pictures of yourself on Facebook and Myspace if you're under 18, and parents wont be permitted to upload pictures of their kids for family members to see. And all internet chat will be monitored, starting with minors - to ensure they arent being taken advantage of. Then adult-to-adult aswell, because you never know if 1 out of several million people might mention being turned on by a 17 year old. Is there ANY country left that supports net neutrality, privacy, civil rights and their own justice system anymore?

You realize it is still smaller download then Firefox and has a smaller memory footprint then all other browsers, right?

Considering how quickly Opera patches everything, I don't see this as any bigger a threat than normal browsing. People who use your Unite page to access things have only got access to what you allow them to see and what you've choicen to host through Unite.

It's not meant to act as a serious server, just to allow easy access to files and content made avaible to Opera on the user's computer. They said it's unlikely PHP and MySQL will be added, but the possiblity that they might do it is there in the future. It's a toy to attract users and to maintain those who may consider leaving the browser, and it's doing just that. Anyone who wants to share content with friends/family can easily do it, and it's incredibly handy for people who use multiple computers.

Opera's Unite is not meant to refine the web as a hosting solution in the traditional sense, but as a way to make your files accessible to yourself and others through it. I don't think anyone is questioning whether it is a better hosting solution then a dedicated server. It's also worth it to note that Unite is a Alpha release with lots of bugs to be fixed and performance tuning and optimization to be done.

Dr. Strangelove would have made a nice addition to the poll. Without Dr. Strangelove, House gets my vote.

Yeah, they are nicer about screwing us over then the American governemt. They *almost* have us thanking them for it sometimes.

I really wanted to see that Amazon patent fail, and I'm glad Canada make this decision on Business Method Patents. Maybe IBM's 45 minute meeting patent will meet the same fate.
