Oh, but they have. They've just figured out what they think is a clever way to increase the number of affiliate referrals that they get. I mean, why rely on people actually clicking on links or banners on their site, when they can hijack referral links from other sites?
I can't believe that this form of behavior could be 'accidently' included in the software. That's just spin control (they should ask Dubya's team for some help). This seems like it would have to be a feature requested by the p2p software company.
Fortunately, Amazon seems to be taking a proactive stance on this. I, for one, have no faith in the claims that this behavior is being modified.
I run Ad-Aware at least once a week... it's amazing the number of spyware progs that try to trick you into installing them these days. Not to mention the ActiveX/Java-enabled cookies...
