Maybe, I'm ignorant, but I've always figured that there were fewer female computer scientists, because in a lot of cases people who end up working heavily with computers learn to do so because they relate better to the machines than they do to other people. On average women seem to have better intrapersonal relationships than men, so it stands to reason that perhaps they just aren't as likely to turn down that path.
