If you counted the number of tickets alone, one movie should dominate - Gone With the Wind. People across the country paid 5 cents each back in the day.

Even more amazing (if I recall), it was the movie that E.T. knocked off the top of the money list - with ticket prices at like 60x that of GWTW.
