Plait accuses the congressmen of trying to bury private spaceflight under red tape in order to protect established industries in their own states

This seems highly unlikely - I can't think of a single example of congressmen doing something like this before.

Indeed, that this OS is still vibrant and alive after so long is a real acheivement.

As a matter of curiousity, could someone please answer why Unix and the various derivatives are still so strong? Why are there so few new OSs that match this one in terms of security etc? Did these guys create the best OS it was possible to make first time or are there better, new OSs waiting in the wings? As you can probably tell, i dont know too much about this so please be gentle....

Italian Court Rules ISPs Must Block Access To Pirate Bay 208

introt writes "After first being blocked in 2008, an Italian court has once again ruled that ISPs in the nation must block access to the infamous torrent tracker The Pirate Bay, leaving millions of users without access to one of the most popular sites on the planet. In the original case, after an appeal by the Pirate Bay, the Court of Bergamo ruled that foreign websites cannot be blocked over alleged copyright infringement. Fast forward until today and the Supreme Court has ruled that ISPs can indeed be forced to block torrent sites, even if they are foreign-based."

Piracy and the PSP 272

In a lengthy interview with Gamasutra about the state of the Playstation brand in 2009, Sony's senior vice president of marketing, Peter Dille, made some interesting comments about how piracy has affected their popular portable console, the PSP. He said, "we're convinced that piracy has taken out a big chunk of our software sales on PSP," a platform that was slow to start anyway due to the lack of early interest from game developers. Dille mentions that while they can fight piracy with hardware upgrades in new versions, that doesn't do anything to help the roughly 50 million PSPs already out there. He goes on to address other aspects of the PlayStation line, including complaints about the pricing and exclusivity.

Election Dirty Tricks About To Begin 942

An anonymous reader writes "ABC is warning that dirty election tricks are about to start. In the past, they've ranged from late-night robo-calls to voter intimidation. ABC has a pretty good list of what to watch out for as told by Allen Raymond, a former Republican operative, who was reformed after spending three months in prison in 2006 for pulling some of the stunts he now helps to prevent." To make this story timely, last week someone broke into a McCain campaign office in Missouri and stole a laptop computer containing "strategic information" about the local campaign.

without embryonic stem cells the process for making these induced pluripotency cells would never have been discovered.
The genes required for such reprogramming are intimately involved in the mechanisms that embryonic stem cells use to maintain their phenotype. Indeed without the extensive studies that have gone on in both human and mouse ES cells we would be completely ignorant about the roles of these genes.

A little research will make you sound a whole less ignorant.
