In the transcripts of one of the recent developer meetings, they discussed the possibility of implementing autopackage. It isn't in there yet, but they are giving it serious consideration.
If it happens once, it's a bug. If it happens twice, it's a feature. If it happens more than twice, it's a design philosophy.
