Journal Some Woman's Journal: Mommy, I set my journal on fire! 22

Wow. I thinked I pushed a button.

*cue sappy music*

But you know what? I've learned something today...

1. New policy. I won't resond to people who violate Rustin's Rules of Order with reckless abandon. When somebody starts off by insulting somebody's mom (hint: this is not the limbo) in response to a journal entry on ad hominem attacks (oh sweet irony, I weep for thee), chances are good that the..erm...discussion will not improve henceforth.

2. I place tremendous value on civility. Much to my pleasure, most others do as well.

3. My expectations are not too high. I have seen with my eyes people who cite references, read people's entire posts, and defend their position in well thought out posts that maintain the dignity of the discussion. For this I thank you.

May your afternoon be pleasant.

  • You see... I read your journal entirely, but omitted the link because that Journal Entry is HUGE!
I'll read it when I have a bit more time. Actually the whole idea is: be polite, openminded and don't jump to conclusions. I don't need to read a 5k essay about that ;-) Oh, wait, now I jumped to a conclusion....
  • have a nice day

I tried to have a nice day, but damned if some mean guy that oppresses me made me work hard and ruined my day.

So, now I will be forced to drive my car home in a lot of traffic and when I get home, study for a stupid Cisco test that I don't want to take but have to if I want more money.

    Feed the machine baby!

Damnit, this was supposed to be funny, but when I proof it, it's just sad.

I'm gonna go cry now. thanks for nothing, SW! You've ruined my day now.
  • So I did start reading that long JE . . . but in the end it turned out to be lots of talking about points I either don't understand enough to add to the conversation, or else didn't have the slightest clue where to start. :-)

But good discussion none the less.

  • Thanks for the link to "Rustin's Rules of Order". That was a good JE; I got some new friends out of it. The flames didn't seem to get out of control; everyone just got a little toasty. :-)
  • First off, I regularly inslut people's mothers, but usually only when they are ANON COWARDS. They deserve little to no respect anyhow.

Secondly, I didn't read the link, because I have tried to commit it to memory. 7.) Why is not What. Man- that one schooled me in every way (but if you look at the comments, you will see that.)

    Third, there is no third.

And Finally, most arguments end up in my favor because all your base are belong to mekkab. And I gots your mothers, too. ;)
  • Your mother was a hampster and your father smelled of eldeberries. I fart in your general direction english pig!
  • Intermodal can recoil in horror all he wants, he's a poorer person for not knowing my mother who is one of the strongest most wonderful women I know. She's also infuriatingly stubborn and unwilling to realize her baby girl is all grown up, but that's par.
    • So, I'm curious, what does she have to say about the long-term implications of the fact that the majority of the students at some of our most prestigious law schools are now women?

      Rustin
      • Or for that matter, why the majority of students of most universities are, in fact, women.
      • They are? As far as I can tell, the only "most prestigious" law school that has more women than men is Berkeley.

        And I should know. ;)

        • Uh, oh. Looks like I was wrong.

Hmm. I did some checking around and found, as this [emcweb.com] Christian Science Monitor story put it:

In law, for example, women now account for almost one-third of the nation's lawyers, as well as the majority of entering law students. Over the past dozen years, the number of women law partners, general counsels, and federal judges has doubled.

But an American Bar Association commission acknowledges: "Women in the legal profession remain underrepresented in positions of greatest s

          • To add to this trend my mother has never practiced law. Instead she works for a major state university in a program mandated by the legislature. The program is designed to be the ultimate resource for law and policy. Aspects of it train public administrators, vet laws for compliance with the federal judicary, and act as a helpline for municiple governement. My mother as one of the most senior faculty teaches clerks, magistrates and sheriffs how to apply the law in their jobs. She answers questions from the
    • Perhaps we should form a club. The Intermodal Dissed My Mom Society (IDMMS)? Doesn't have a nice ring to it, but maybe it will do. As children of attorneys, we should have an easy time getting 503c status. I assume we can get a few more members from somewhere, since he seems to think it a legitimate tactic [slashdot.org].
  • it sure was a lot of fun. we should do it again sometime.

The universe is all a spin-off of the Big Bang.
