Journal SolemnDragon's Journal: another journal from the old place 6

Oke, so i was wrong. Here i am at the old apartment, trying to prioritise what gets brought when. We returned the truck this morning. If anyone's wondering what it's like to drive a truck, particularly a rental lorry, imagine a metal band-aid box full of hardened cement, on matchbox car wheels.

That's pretty much what it's like, plus or minus a few moving parts.

We're tired, we're cranky.

Kitten, however, has adjusted well. She hated the trip over, because she was absolutely sure that we were bringing her back to the vet for yet another invasive procedure that she wouldn't be allowed a vote on.

When that didn't happen, and she calmed down in the new place (took about 2 hours) she began exploring, and was last seen happily sitting on a pillow on the floor in the bedroom, enjoying the sunshine and grooming her fur.

She's a relatively well-adjusted cat. Her early horrors were forgotten, and apart from a little insecurity about meals, she does pretty well no matter what gets thrown her way. It helps that she doesn't hold grudges.

I've been several days now without any severe allergic reactions. I'm really happy about this, and hoping that the trend continues, as we still have no clue what set it off.

Moving has given me an interesting window into how i prioritise my life. Work clothes are speparate from regular clothes. I have lots of work clothes. I'm not overly fond of them, and intend (at some point) to change my life so that i have a job where i can wear what i consider normal clothing.

No, not a tiara and my snowsuit. At least, not on workdays.

I mean things like jeans- i've come a long way from the point where i only owned one pair. I mean things that don't require white shirts to look proper.

Hell. i'm outta time, it's time to go load up the car. We're moving things one carload at a time over the course of the next month, which keeps us from having anything we need at the new place at the time that we need it while assuring that we're thoroughly sick of going to the old place to get things.

Yay, changes!

  • I hope it all works out for you. (Don't see why it shouldn't.) Just be sure to throw a big crazy housewarming party when you're all settled in :-) I'll be there in spirit...
  • I've driven more than my share of minivans, vans, and box trucks of several sizes. I've found that the differences lie more in powerplant, mirror placement, and lift gate vs. ramp than anything else.

Then again, you didn't ask me to drive, and I would probably refuse a request to drive through Boston in any event. ;-)

  • Of course, if you had access to a car large enough to hold something bigger than a (small) wallet, it wouldn't take quite so many 'carloads'.
    • yes, but with cars- as with dragons and dynamite- good things often arrive in small conveyances.
      • Speaking of dragons, the brat and I just went to the Halloween store (temp chain owned by Spencer's) and I'm trying to convince him that we should go as orcs from the Warcraft series. He's fond of the battleaxes, and I like the warhammers, but they also had some staves with dragon heads on them. Sounds like just the ticket for an orc shaman.
  • You will soon discover how incredibly annoying your old place was to reach from the red line. :) You'll learn to hate Rt 60 between the Fellsway & 93, because the road is in such crappy condition. And then -- you'll never have to do it again.

ps - the skewer worked wonders.

Promising costs nothing, it's the delivering that kills you.

Working...
