The MOS 6502 (of Commodore C64 and Apple II fame) had less than 4000 transistor functions and was manufactured in an 8 micrometer process (structure width approximately a three thousandths of an inch). Something like that may be feasible.

It is one thing to not provide further support. It is quite another thing to sabotage an otherwise working product.
