Comment ID required = no going to use (Score 1) 111

The applications need users or they are worthless. If ID required results in no users wanting to use their service they will re-think the requirement. I am not sharing my ID just to use some service on the internet, hell they don't get my real phone number when they ask. Internet Privacy is the most important thing to me. Being anonymous especially in this age of cancel culture is the most important thing you can have.

Simple post on the front page of your sight. Access to this site from the following locations is prohibited. Accessing this site from these locals is a violation of 18 U.S. Code 1030. Should end the responsibility right there. If governments are going to create these laws then they need to enforce it on their constituents. I don't believe they can make the rest of us to enforce them where we are not in their jurisdiction.

Comment Up to them to police (Score 1) 125

Wondering when the companies are just going to go base themselves in a friendly jurisdiction, put their content on the internet and let the countries that want to censor take on the burden and cost to censor. I run a web server from the US and DGAF what the laws are in any other country. If you don't want your citizens to view the content on my web site then it is up to you to block their access, not me.

Comment 5 eyes can already get access (Score 1) 53

IMHO they already have access and to the UK that their law is going to make it harder for the 5 eyes team to monitor. You can't depend on any provider to keep your info secure. They are one secret court order away from reveling your data, no matter what they say to you. Apple just put up a fight in public but behind closed doors they told the UK that they were going to ruin everything for all the players if they didn't knock their shit off.
