Comment As a corrections officer (Score 0) 434

I understand this man's plight. As a Florida Corrections Officer, we can be investigated and/or FIRED for posts made on our facebooks... and not simply security issues, but there is currently an employee on administrative leave because he posted on facebook that he "had a bad day" and earlier that day he had a use of force on an unruly inmate. I understand the department has a responsibility to keep tabs on it's employees, but someone has to draw the line.

Incorrect. There are exactly 9 different rock-paper-scissors games:

Rock-Rock
Rock-Paper
Rock-Scissors
Paper-Rock
Paper-Paper
Paper-Scissors
Scissors-Rock
Scissors-Paper
Scissors-Scissors

You may attempt to argue semantics such as Rock-Paper is the same game as Paper-Rock, but you would be wrong. In a Rock-Paper game, the second player would be the victor, where as in a Paper-Rock game, the first player will claim the spoils. You could argue and say that from a scientific standpoint, that the victor doesn't matter. Wrong again. The very spirit and focal point of competitive scenarios is to win. No one turns on COD and says "How many different ways can I die today?". Sure, the outcome may not matter to one or more of the players, but the likelihood of going into a competitive situation, intentionally attempting to lose, is slim. Whilst none of the parties involved will be upset if they lose, they will still continue to pursue a victory.

Submission + - Lost online games from the pre-Web era (pcmag.com)

harrymcc writes: Long before the Web came along, people were playing online games--on BBSes, on services such as Prodigy and CompuServe, and elsewhere. Gaming historian Benj Edwards has rounded up a dozen RPGs, MUDs, and other fascinating curiosities from the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s--and the cool part is, they're all playable on the Web today.

The Acer Revo and several other machines will handle this, but I've felt that the full 1080p just doesn't feel smooth with one of the small nettop style boxes. I would recommend something like the following (customized to your discretion):

Beyond that, install XBMC live instead of using it as an application in Windows. All of the newer Nvidia cards support VDPAU, which allows for the video decoding to take place on the GPU, which is much better than software decoding. I think you'll find this solution much more satisfactory than running both windows and XBMC (especially considering Windows 7 has between 768MB - 1GB memory footprint by itself, not to mention CPU usage). Alternatively, your current setup may work just fine with XBMC live and you may not need to build anything at all (and i would suggest trying that first). Good luck.
