categorically false, rights are not something granted to Citizens, just most obviously evidenced by the wording that says "Congress shall make no law..."

but even if you wanted to buy into that incorrect argument, then the ban still affects the rights of Citizens to speak where they please without gov't interference

Ya this is far more stupid than California decriminalizing theft under $990 or NYC ending bail for extremely serious violent felons.

But those Republicans!!

California did not decriminalize theft, it simply reclassfied lower level non-violent crimes as misdemeanors https://apnews.com/article/fac...

NY did not end cash bail for violent felonies, only misdemeanors and some non-violent felonies https://www.nyclu.org/en/campa...

I'm an Apple dweeb and actually I'm with you on allowing sideloading. If people want to assume that risk with their own devices it should certainly be allowed.

But at the same time, Epic and others have been quite clear in stating that they don't consider sideloading sufficient, or even allowing 3rd party app stores. They want to be in Apple's App Store just under terms that they dictate rather than Apple.

Cynicism compels me to believe that Apple will likely be forced to make major changes, but they'll be changes designed to serve the interests of other mega-corps and not necessarily beneficial, possibly even harmful, to the actual consumers.

Nerdery has always had a large authoritarian segment, that's why you have so many flame wars over PC vs Mac, Xbox vs Playstation, vi vs emacs, DC vs Marvel, Python vs almost everything else and I'm sure we could spend all day listing just the most famous and common of nerd culture war topics.

And one fairly common strand with authoritarians is that the older they get, the more certain they become that their way is the one true way and that everyone who disagrees is criminally insane.

OK, so since you say they don't happen anyway, you'll be perfectly okay with ban on late-time abortions except for genetic/mother's life in danger/similar health-related, objectively determined by a doctor kind of reasons?

Yeah, didn't think so.

There is not a single state where so called late-term abortions are legal without medical justification. The state that allows the latest elective abortions is Virginia and they cap it at 27 weeks. The other blue states cap them at mostly 22 or 23 weeks.

The idea of "Democrats want to allow abortions up till the moment of birth" is a complete lie manufactured by Republicans.

They're kinder, more generous and far far more responsible than the kids I grew up with in the 70s and 80s.

And yes, they are more sensitive than their elders, but in a way that I cannot see as anything but a good thing.

Even with just plain retailers marking up products 100% or more is not uncommon, clothing in particular has monstrous retail markups. That's why this and the efforts claiming the Apple store cut of 30% are "too much" are disingenuous. They aren't doing anything that brick and mortar retailers haven't done since the beginning of time.

Now if people want to start talking about should there be some cap on profit margins (think like anti-price gouging rules during disasters, but all the time), then we can talk, but let's not pretend that what's happening currently isn't anything besides capitalism working the way it has always worked.

Well just because a doctor got 4.0 in school doesn't mean he is actually better at being a doctor than the doctor that got 3.5, it just means he was better at playing the game of medical school.

In fact a common scenario amongst intelligent people is that they end up with less than perfect grades because they are more willing to challenge themselves with more difficult coursework whereas those obsessed with playing the game will pad their coursework with easier classes.

And no one is suggesting a world where people are held to no standards at all, rather that the current grading model is flawed and results in poor evaluations of actual skill/knowledge.

That's not a fair assumption. Not everyone at an elite school is going to be an elite. I have no doubt that there is at least one scholarship student trying not to starve to death.

A Wharton MBA is not a program for kids coming straight out of high school. You must already have a bachelors degree and have worked after college in a managerial capacity. Now I suppose somewhere in the multiverse that could include the rare poor person who doesn't already have a mobile phone, but it's fairly unlikely, hence why I said "a pretty safe bet."
