Journal SiliconJesus's Journal: cfengine 2.0 + weekend plans 3
I have decided that I've gone long enough without a true nemesis. Right now, cfengine 2.0 is my nemesis. It took me 4 hours to get a good clean compile going with requirements of the system that shouldn't have been there. Now I have it compiled on my Solaris workstation at work, I need to work on the configuration files and most importantly, port our current configuration files over from a previous version of cfengine and also work on a perl / web interface for making modification since the files are so borked.
In the mean time, I need to figgure out how to get my systems setup so I can work on the new HP-UX server for cross compiliation (we don't have a production HP-UX server for this purpose, so I get to borrow my co-worker's personal HP Visualize Workstation which I installed 11.11 on yesterday. Now I need to get this switch working so my entire environment will be happy (I only have two ports, which are currently being utilized by my laptop and Sunblade 1000).
Other than these developments, my new job is pretty much the way it has been, with no huge bumps in the road. I'm starting to feel more comfortable here (which was easy as two of the three guys in my department, I worked with at Digex), and I'm finally someplace where my opinions matter for more than just filler. I still am not familiar with the product that I'm going to be assisting in supporting, but I'm taking advantage of that time to continue to work on the things that are 'would like to have's' that noone has had time to work on up to this point.
The beater (96 neon) has been doing pretty good so far. I need to fix the small oil leak and the odometer doesn't work. The new head unit may show up this weekend ($20 on ebay), which may effect my weekend plans. Wife's car needs new brakes and tires, my friends car needs new brakes - so more wrenching for me this weekend regardless. Maybe I'll paint the Mazda's calipers while I have the wheels off this time.
The boy has been getting off his normal sleep schedule causing both my wife and I many a bleary eyed trip down the hall in the wee hours of the morning. He's spending tonight with Grandmom so my wife and I can go out together and act like adults. We're planning on some dinner at Outback, followed by either Putt-Putt or driving range. We'll prolly come home, relax and pass out from lack of sleep recently, but I'm holding out hope.
