Journal SiliconJesus's Journal: [WoW] Ragnaros 29

First off, my name is Jesus, and I'm a geek.

Now that we have that out of the way, I've been playing World of Warcraft since day one. Took 15 months to get my first level 60 from the start of the game. I have been with my guild since 2000, playing Asheron's Call together on their Solclaim server. We're not a hardcore guild, we just play to have fun. Most of us are 30 and over. In World of Warcraft, we've joined forced with two smaller guilds to form an informal group called UCS. Starting in late March, we began the long tedious task of taking on Molten Core the first of the 'end game' content dungeons in the game. In this short amount of time, we've gone from not being able to take out the first boss, to clearing all the main bosses, and getting down to the head muckity muck, Ragnaros. Well - last night, after taking down Major Domo (the second to last boss) for the third straight week, we went in to see Rags. We managed to get him down to 50% on our first try.

Amazing. We're guessing that in two to three more weeks we should be able to down him. I need to farm more fire resist gear. Loads of fun. Its amazing how much we've accomplished as a group in 3 short months (as a reference, most groups take 6 months to get as far as we have).

    • I'm one of the t2 geared people in the guild HBI is talking about. Also the mage officer of said guild.

Rag hints... when we were starting Rag, we required everyone in the raid to have 5 greater fire protection potions. If you didn't have the potions... tough, you're out of the raid.

Your main tank needs about 300 fire resist to avoid those cumbersome Rag aoe fire punts he does to melee.

Warriors/rogues need FR too, but not as much. Still get them as high as they can especially while you are learning. Resists
      • We got him down to 50% on our first attempt ever, then died on the sons. People didn't collapse fast enough and we took a shot to the grill. Also, two of the three assigned 'banisher' warlocks died during the first phase. I with lower FR gear was the last to die in the first attempt.

Second attempt we got unlucky, and caught a bug. The son's spawned, but Ragnaros didn't despawn. We just didn't have enough healing to deal with keeping the MT/OT up AND deal with trying to heal people getting pwnd by the s
        • Wow... 6-8 warlocks... thats crazy!! (not in a bad way, just in the damn I don't think we've ever had that many warlocks online at one time sort of way)

I think our normal Rag (and MC really) raid structure is 6 rogues, 4 hunters, 5 priests, 4 druids, 3 warlocks, 5 mages, 6 warriors, 5 paladins (sometimes we'll drop a mage if we have an extra warlock, or bring in pally's/druids to make up for lack in priests or bring 6 priests and 3 druids etc).

Once you get better at the fight though, you really won't need f
          • In our three guilds, we have close to 20 active lvl 60 warlocks. Our problem is always too many warlocks wanting to go. At least it makes the Garr fight VERY easy. Last week each of the 8 groups had at least one warlock, and group 6 was composed of 4 warlocks and a priest.

Also, we're horde, so we get the Fire Resist totems, but lose the paladain auras. (Don't give me crap about frost shock, the shamans are pretty much dedicated to healing every boss battle).

          • I get to collect claws this week. I've finally got enough rep to grab them. I'd love that quest line, but the goddamned quest giver is such a long goddamned travel. At least, I'm finally on my last leg of that quest.
    • your'e playing Wow again???
