Journal SiliconJesus's Journal: Blizzard, why hast thou forsaken me? (Colorful language) 15

Yet again, the Blizzard team has screwed the pooch where it comes to WoW. The 1.10 patch which was supposed to take only a few hours took all day to install. I'm freaking LIVID. I'm paying more money than I'd care to divulge (multiple accounts) and getting no value out of it whatsoever. Their system is so flawed, that every patch day, their main server gets DOS'd out of existance, because, guess what? They run their ENTIRE INTERNET FACE out of one subnet (I've tracerouted everything).

WTG Blizzard. Thanks a bunch. Next time you tell me to be patient, please understand that my saying "Go fuck yourself" is as close as I can get to plesantries at this time.

But yeah, I'm not addicted or anything.

You just missed it. Finally log in and get a nice ZF group going on my new server (Gul'dan, horde), and BAM! Servers are coming down in 5 minutes.

What was a group to do? We rushed to Ghazrilla as fast as a 5man possibly could, got to it, aggrod about 8 extras, and ran for it just as the servers went down. I was the only one to make it alive :-P

Now we won't be able to log in again until tomorrow, because all the servers were taken down, so everybody from every server is OCD logging in right now.
    • I'm on Cenarius Horde. Last friday night, we were in a Molten Core run (we just started doing MC) and the lagmonster hit. Nothing like being one-shotted by mobs that you can't even see, then watching people's corpses SLINDING AROUND THE FLOOR.

I'm so angry, I'm tempted to get a plane ticket to California and just start going postal. I needed to farm tonight to get ready for this weekend's MC runs :(

    • Sadly, I'm actually doing exactly that one two computers at the same time.

I figured perhaps they hit a quota on their Windows clients, so I was spamming it on my Mac box as well, all to no avail. I'm getting irritated. Hell - I'm past irritated, I'm freaking livid.

Please, tell me it'll be okay. Tell me that Dreadlock will still be there when I get to play (HOPEFULLY) this next weekend.

      Gah! STABBA STABBA STABBA!
      • Ok so I posted my earlier replies before I read this. Since your guild is just getting to MC, you are probably pretty new to the game... ie. newer than when this was a regular occurence (or at least frequent enough that it wasn't a shock or go unexpected).

So, here are a few hints.

On patch days, if the servers are down and Blizz has given an ETA for servers to come up... add at least 5 hours to that. If no ETA has been given, they don't know what is wrong, expect it to be awhile.

        The dual machine spamming won
        • Actually, I was a beta tester, and I've been playing since day one. My guild is a laid back guild. At 30, I'm one of the youngest members of the guild. We just decided to start doing MC, because we've been running out of content to do otherwise (most members have at least 4 lvl 60 alts).

Yes, I know all the tricks, but I was getting halfway authenticated on the machines, so I was hoping that ONE of my two accounts would get all the way through to let me at least farm for some gold getting ready for the ra
    • Why don't you children go play outside, it's such a nice day.

Here, I'll make lemonade and find some cookies for you.

And take your brother with you.

    • I totally understand that things such as MMORPGs don't scale on a 1 to 1 basis, but goddamnit, Asheron's Call never had problems like this, and when they did, they were the first to come out to their fanbase and say, "hey guys, we got a problem with such and such. We've ordered a new xyz and it should be in tomorrow. Because ya'll lost a DAY of playing, we're going to give everyone a free week."

In WoW, you'll be lucky to get a few free hours. I don't know what has changed since Diablo / Diablo II, but it
      • Let's see... all of the Blizzard North developers left? Yeah that's one reason for change.

As for the servers being down. My guilds vent was absolutely hilarious last night between the "I can't log in", "wait I am handshaking, dammit rejected", "ooh I got in" and then the mass trying to get our UI addons updated. I managed to get lucky and get CT_mod before the low bandwidth site completely flaked out so I was sending that to people, and one of our guild members got CT_raidassist so he set up a website uploa
  • You are either new to the game and have never seen this happen with a patch before, or you got complacent and used to them not screwing up patches. We will probably get a free day out of this, depending on how long the servers are down for. Now granted, if you are paying monthly, that's a little less than $.50... Blizzard sure is generous huh?
    • Ah, I hope they do the right thing and give us at least a week of additional playtime. Honestly, I only play a few evenings a week (usually Thursday, Friday and some of Saturday) so my 'value' on those nights is about $2.50 / night ($15 / 12 * 2 accts). Luckily, I pay both of my accounts in 6 month intervals.
