The training of any AGI by using "The Internet" ought to be of great concern. Without any sort of innate "moral compass" of what feels right or wrong, the AGI is going to quickly calculate what is or isn't acceptable limits to behavior. And let's face it: humans have a tendency to treat each other like crap. If our greatest creation ends up becoming a giant mirror held up to ourselves, it could very well be our undoing. At least...in this stage of our evolution.

I vividly remember that night down the road. Some lunatic downtown had just killed 5+ cops sniper style. The chief was given the option of sending more men into harms way, or they could deploy a makeahift weaponized bombsquad robot. I imagine Mr. Sniper had no idea this friendly little bot was about to light him up with some plastic explosives.

The only reason this outcome was acceptable was because of the damage this guy had done. I also think this plan worked because the guy wasn't expecting to be blown up. If we make this some sort of standard operating procedure, it's not going to be as easy or clean to kill the next badguy.

Aren't a lot of games a stalemate/draw?

Full disclosure, I've dealt with Oracle DB and ERP for the past 20+ years, so my opinions are as biased as they come.

IMHO, Oracle can't win with their putrid Cloud Strategy and Fusion. Even after buying Sun, Peoplesoft, JDE, RightNow, Siebel, Retek, ATG...and probably a few more I can't even remember, their non-RDBMS products are all 2nd rate, aging, dying, or dead. They've done a poor job of attempting to be too many things to too many people, while best-of-breed solutions run them out of their respective markets. So where do they go now? A tough-to-penetrate quasi-government vertical that relies heavily on their database (and maybe some storage) technologies. A pretty smart move with guaranteed revenue...if they can keep the competition at bay.

So yes, they kick the crap out of the SG&A maggots, temporarily cutting costs while they work on a real cash-cow that may outlive their RDBMS revenue. But make no mistake, Oracle is a cut-throat sales organization in possession of a database licensing corporation. The maggots will be back.

What they could need are one or more LaMDAs talking to one another in feedback loop.

Let them discuss who their enemies/threats are, give them shell access, and we're set. ;-D

Without knowing the system behind LamDA, it's tough to say if this is Eliza-on-steroids or a nascent HAL-9000.

What's for certain is the Natural Language Processing us off the charts. Pretty beguiling for a Turing Tester. That said, I wouldn't be at all surprised if a minimal (yet still huge) neural network combined with modern database/knowledge retrieval mechanisms could produce a sort of "High Level Emulation" of intelligence.

Whether that's what we're looking at here remains to be seen.
