If you were actually a tech guy instead of a shill you would know how trivially easy it is to program around the issues you describe. Many retailers have already fielded fixes for these issues. But then again, you already know that, don't you? That's not your purpose here.

I would MUCH rather see a half dozen minimum self checkout lanes simply because I'm not an idiot and can check myself out far faster than all but the best cashiers.

This law is nothing more than the naked self interest of the unions on full display, masquerading as a public good. That's the socialist way but it seems many people are too stupid to realize that.

Ah, naked self interest masquerading as the greater good: it's the socialist way. You would think that all the presumably smart and educated people in places like Portland could learn from history, but unfortunately they need to be bludgeoned over the head with the negative consequences before it sinks in that maybe it isn't such a great idea after all.
