Our entire education system was built upon it. Teachers taught what the communities that paid them wanted them to teach. Now teachers teach what they feel is best and want everyone to just trust their judgement. But that is not really how government spending works. People want to have a say in the education of their spawn, and the worst thing that could have happened was the pandemic where they sent the children home. Now, the thing that the PTA has been asking for years to happen has happened and the teachers are like "Whoa, what do you mean you do not like what we teach, we're professionals!"
which means not a whit to most people who just do not care.
The hilarity we see now is just the result of that. I keep saying that as we go further and further down this road where we are unable to find any common ground that the country will slowly fray until there will be no choice but to dissolve. Of course, that's when China wins, but hey. they did it fair and square, using our tactics even! Good on them.
In any event, this comes back to the measures of intelligence. If we as a country are becoming less and less able to think critically and use verbal and logical reasoning skills that implies that the ability to find common ground is a dying skill. This is bad.

This is why we all have insurance, because we can not afford to pay from our own funds for a mundane injury.
