At 10 cents a kw/h, which is a little above average, you will save about $30 a year with a LCD, if we assume you use it 10 hrs a day, 365 days/yr. But, a decent 19" CRT can be had for $150, while an acceptable 18" LCD starts at $450. This is a $300 difference, meaning the time to recover the difference is 10 years. By that time, we should have all our newspapers printed on 200dpi roll-up disposable lcd paper, right?
However, an LCD is FAR worth the $400 or $500 you will spend on them, even if they only last a couple of years. If you're a regular LCD user, being forced to work with a Trinitron CRT will be a painful experience!
