I think Disney realised if they don't make money from a licensing deal and block other players.. it won't take much for a startup to generate a whole new slew of characters that are more relevant than some 50 year old princesses and they lose out entirely..

Also, there were a number of petitions signed by a bunch of people sent to Uk parliament asking them to sort it out.. I am a 3rd world minority.. but I picked myself up by the bootstraps, worked long and hard to make enough money to get an iPhone and it lasted me years and years and years.. turns out the higher price upfront was more than worth it over time. All my fellow 3rd worlders with their cracked screens and 'free open platform' though.. probably not as much ROI..

The UK sold ARM, you know the chip design that runs almost everything these days, to Japanese company SoftBank about 10 years ago. Pretty short sighted in my opinion.

There is a 3rd option. HarmonyOS Next and Huawawei .. this will grow out of China, probably other parts of Asia and Africa. Because it's cheap and Chinese products are good value for money

If you block your kids from these platforms, they just get ridiculed and bullied by their peers for not having a Snap, TikTok etc. So your kids are damned either way. Society needs to change. We know alcohol is bad for kids and we have laws to protect them from it. Same thing should happen with this.
