243 glorious years after you threw us out for requesting taxes to protect you from the indigenous peoples? Yeah that sounds like Americah!
Am doing it right now. Thunderbird has been my daily email client for 10 years plus. Very glad they are doing this - long live Mozilla!
Libreoffice is actually a perfectly good Office tool. It just doesn't have the thousand bells and whistles that most people don't use. Oh, and it runs on Linux, Mac and Windows. Oh and its ethical. Several goods there and quite enough for me (alt-tab back to Lbreoffice).
Thunderbird is open source if that's of consequence to you. It's freely available and not paid for like Outlook. It will also store your email locally so that if you are offline you can still get your email and not rely on cloud providers to always be available to you.
I would like to offer contrary evidence. We have had only one Windows server (out of choice) over the last 15 years and its reboot requirement is woefully larger than any one of my linux servers. They generally only require restarts after a mains power failure, not every 7-10 days or less like the Windows server. Additionally, when they do need rebooting it is a painless procedure, whereas generations of Windows server have required two reboots sometimes to bring up all services. Collectively the statistical evidence I have shows that Linux is far more reliable.
"such a good product"? In usability terms yes, it was great and still is. As a measure of "good", however, usability is not the only one I pay my money for. I tend to include security alongside it with the same weighting. Oh, Linux is winning now by my scoring. Surprise.
Couple this with the fact that the only reason the world is using is it in such volume is good marketing and grotesque hog-tie deals with manufacturers leaving the consumer no other choice.
Let's be careful with "good" and not devalue it, please.
"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity". Not to say MS aren't often malicious ( or "competitive"), but having used a pile of their software today I can certainly say there's much that's badly written.
Me too, works perfectly on my Acer, all hardware features. Windows in a VM for those locked-in technology moments.
I was showing the finance director of a company I used to work for how good Doom was. He got used to all the controls, managed a simple part on his own, got engrossed and an Imp jumped out. He leapt sideways off his chair and split his head open on a door jamb. Real gaming!
Down-modded probably because it makes too many assumptions. The question may not even be asked by "IT people". Abusive too, so fair game for -1 IMHO
Ubuntu on a new Acer 573P. Touch screen, camera, speakers all working well. Fast, light, cool.
